Mentoring Program

The ISMPB mentorship program connects researchers across institutions to support career growth, networking, and community-building. By signing up as a mentee or mentor, you’ll join an international network committed to professional development and peer support. Mentor–mentee pairs are matched by the ISMPB’s Collaborative Excellence Committee based on shared interests, backgrounds, or identities. Each mentee will be paired with one mentor, while mentors may work with up to three mentees. 

Participation in the program is designed to be flexible and shaped by the mentor–mentee pair. Many participants choose to meet during ICAMPAM (or online for those not attending), followed by light-touch check-ins—such as brief virtual meetings or email exchanges—every few months, scheduled in a way that suits both parties.

Who can be a mentee?

  • Undergraduate or graduate students
  • PhD candidates
  • Postdoctoral researchers
  • Early career academics or professionals new to the field
  • Anyone curious and motivated to grow — no prior involvement with ISMPB required!

Why join as a mentee?

  • Receive personalised guidance from experienced researchers and professionals (including many ISMPB board members)
  • Explore academic, clinical, and industry career pathways
  • Gain support in research development, publishing, conference preparation, and grant writing
  • Build your network within a friendly, down‑to‑earth global community
  • Develop confidence, skills, and long‑term professional relationships

What does participation involve?

  • Completing a short questionnaire so we can match you to the best mentor for your goals
  • A welcome meeting with your mentor at ICAMPAM or online
  • Engaging proactively with your mentor as part of your professional development
  • Light‑touch follow‑up meetings during the year (schedule at your convenience together with your mentor)

What can you talk about with your mentor?
Anything that supports your growth — such as:

  • Research design, methods, or datasets
  • Publishing strategies and navigating reviews
  • Career planning and academic pathways
  • Balancing workloads and building a professional profile
  • Preparing for presentations at conferences such as ICAMPAM
  • Networking — including academic, clinical, and industry pathways

    Who can be a mentor? Anyone with experience in research, clinical work, policy, methods, or industry connected to movement behaviors is welcome. Senior PhD candidates, postdocs, faculty, and experienced professionals can all be excellent mentors.
