Nov 14, 2024 | Faculty

The Department of Exercise Science at the University of South Carolina (USC) Arnold School of Public Health (ASPHwww.sph.sc.edu) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin on August 16, 2025 in prevention science, focusing on early or middle childhood. The Department seeks candidates with particular interest in working with racially or ethnically diverse populations, and whose scholarship focuses on prevention strategies that benefit young children. Candidates with research expertise in preventive interventions (e.g., in classroom, school, family, or community contexts), especially with a focus on health disparities and on prevention aimed at benefitting groups that have experienced discrimination and exclusion, are strongly urged to apply. This faculty position is in conjunction with the University’s NIH-supported Research Center for Child Well-Being (RCCWB): https://rccwb.sc.edu. The RCCWB conducts research on integrated prevention of unhealthy lifestyle, such as sleep, physical activity, screen use, diet, and social-emotional problems in children ages 2-10.

The position is a 9-month tenure-track appointment and requires an earned doctoral degree, by the beginning date of employment (August 16, 2025), in public health or closely related field, and a demonstrated record of research productivity and potential for excellence in teaching. The position is open to early-career faculty as well as recent graduates.

The successful candidate will have an affiliation and collaborate with faculty in both the RCCWB and AHKI
(https://www.sc.edu/study/colleges_schools/public_health/research/research_centers/acoi/index.php) in their pursuit of external grants to support their prevention research related to the focus of the RCCWB and AHKI. The successful candidate will also contribute to the academic mission of the department and the college through undergraduate and graduate teaching and research, including prevention-related courses.
