The “Human Motion,Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine, Digital Methods” (HOSD) unit is a transversaland translational research platform of the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH )conducting and supporting research related to movement, physical activity, physical function and mobility using laboratory-based, free-field, real-world and digital tools in orthopaedics and sports medicine as well as in other disease areas. HOSD develops, validates and applies, in clinical research, trials and practice, movement and activity based methods and metrics for clinical outcome assessment, novel digital mobility biomarkers, patient stratification or as the basis for treatment modalities (e.g. exercise or physical activity interventions, rehabilitation) and patient engagement (e.g. coaching advise, patient-centered care, participatory medicine).  In expansion of these activities, we are seeking a driven research fellow and team member.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Contribute to the execution of ongoing research projects (planning, implementation, follow-up, supervision, data analysis)
  • Carry out, plan and set-up research projects with the team and independently using lab-based, wearable and digital technologies in a translational manner.
  • Contribute to, advance and initiate the use of new technologies and the development of new tools and methods for clinical movement analysis, activity monitoring and digital outcome assessments (devices, signals, algorithms, parameters, validation)
  • Seek, support the team and autonomously prepare research grant proposals at national, regional and international level.
  • Write and support publishing scientific articles for peer-reviewed international journals
  • Stay updated with the current scientific literature related to the above and disseminate this bibliography to the HOSD team.
  • Participate in and support the internal (LIH, transversal) and external cooperations (e.g. CHL, LIROMS, Uni.lu) and engage in national Luxembourgish, regional and international networks.
  • Identify and communicate problems and suggestions for possible solutions in a clear way.
  • Disseminate results and activities at congresses and other channels to the scientific community, stakeholders and the general public.

KEY SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD or previous Post-Doctoral position in the area of clinical biomechanics, biomedical engineering, movement analysis or related fields, ideally in an orthopaedics or sports medicine context.  Successful Master´s degree (MSc) with dedicated experience in the fast evolving areas below is also eligible.
  • Solid knowledge, hands-on experience and vision in the translational and clinical research use of wearable sensors, (marker-less) motion capture or activity and outcome tracking apps.
  • Experience or ambition in programming and supervising algorithm or app development for motion analysis and activity monitoring is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with setting up and running clinical research protocols.
  • Fluency in English with advanced writing skills for scientific publications and grant applications.
  • Language skills in at least one of the national languages is expected
  • Excellent planning and communication skills, ability to work in complex, multi-disciplinary teams and to coordinate work.
